“We are Back to the slums”

One Adolescent at a time

Over 290,000 teenage Pregnancies‼  were registered in Uganda during the 2020 COVID-19 Lockdown according to the recent statistics.

Over the last weekend Our Peer Team spent time with the adolescents in the slums, we engaged adolescent girls and boys in a one on one talk (with Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Education-SRH), we got them some food supplies and clothes. It’s really touching knowing what most of them go through to survive in the slums. Most of these are adolescents who engage in taking drugs, some engage in Prostitution, playing board games through-out the day, many of them are living in ramshackled shelters, without their parents and because they have less engagement in productive work they are so much at risk, engaging in sexual related behaviours at such early ages, increasing their chances to teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDs, sexually transmitted diseases, addictive behaviors from drug abuse and mental related illnesses.
