Last Saturday 15th/May/2021, was indeed a Big day our medical team led by Doctor Fred successfully organizing the Adolescent/Youth Project on sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness (SRH) in the slum areas of Kajjansi line, 287 adolescents and youths received a number of services at a free cost, we had HIV counseling and testing, Family Planning services, Health Education, we had a one on one interaction within the area with those who were unable to walk to the Camp area, we engaged both girls and boys in a session on sexual and Reproductive Health, they asked various questions and our medical team was so responsive to them! Our medical team involved Doctors, Nurses, Counselors, VHTs, social workers and Clinical Psychologists, we worked with Kajjansi Health Centre IV and appropriate referrals and linkages were made to the Health Centre! We also worked with the local leaders and Religious leaders in that area as a way of Community collaboration and Engagement.
Children were not left out as they were served candy with Guitar entertainment, we stressed the need for a Healthy lifestyle in the young generation, which would help to curb the high rates of teenage pregnancies, which lead to school drop outs amongst many young girls, HIV Prevention to curb high rates of new HIV infection rates amongst adolescents and youths, Drug addictions which lead to a number of mental illnesses. We are yet to set up an Empowerment Centre in the slum areas of Kajjansi line, where many young people would be engaged in a number of creative work to help them make good use of their time, through this we will continue engage them in sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness programs, for young people to be provided the opportunity to access their potential and grow into healthy, responsible and independent adults!
In the next couple of weeks our team is committed to make a Follow up in the slum area!
